Resolved Question: Why countries can only send one team for some games?

Why is it during the Olympics, some games allow each country to send more than one team to represent it. For example, in Badminton or Table Tennis, each country is allowed to send 4 to 5 teams to represent it. Likewise, in swimming, each country can also send more than one swimmer to represent the country in a game. In fact, in some events, more than one swimmer can be sent to represent the country. The competition will then consists of more than one swimmer from that country.
However, why is it for some other sports, only one team is allowed per country? For example. for soccer, England will only be allowed to send one team? Likewise, in basketball, each country can only send on team? Why can’t each country be allowed to send more than one team?
For example, can’t Germany send 4 to 5 soccer teams to represent it in the Olympics? Likewise, England can also do the same. Would it be nice if the US can send 6 to 7 teams to represent it in Basketball?
